Our story

Until it was sold in 2012, we had represented the iconic Bruichladdich distillery on Islay. We frequently drove from Glasgow to catch the ferry to Islay and passed the beautiful Rest and Be Thankful on the A83.

The origins of this evocative name always fascinated us and we learnt that it came from a stone inscription made by soldiers as they completed construction of the old military road in 1753 ; a road out of Glen Croe that was so long and steep that it was traditional for travellers to rest and repose at the highest point.

Upon hearing of this, we knew there could be no better name of our whiskies and rums – they should be slowly savoured and enjoyed and invoke that sense of

Our philosophy

Hence our Philosophy - Rest & Be Thankful is not just the name of beautiful locations in both Scotland and Jamaica; the name conjures up images of fearless toil and endeavor of bygone times and the joy and gratitude felt when the job was done. We attempt to harness this spirit in our Rest and Be Thankful spirits – be brave and savour the satisfaction of a job well done.

WE DON'T JUST BOTTLE THE FINEST CASKS. WE BOTTLE A STATE OF MIND.

Our rums

Whisky is our first love. It’s what we know , it’s what we’ve grown up and it’s pretty much all we’ve been involved in all our working lives. But then we discovered the world of rum and an initial interest first became a passion and has now become a key part of our business.

And given that the actual place – Rest and Be Thankful – exists both in Scotland and in Jamaica, then there is great serendipity that this is the name of our brand celebrating the best whiskies and rums.

Our small batch and single cask bottlings are always free of additives and colourings and are un-chill filtered to deliver the true identity of the matured spirit.
